I accept responsibility as I didn’t realize I was booking a one star hotel.
The pros: great location - Gangnam food street is literally around the corner - tons of options for meals, and a 7/11 around the corner for snacks and beverages.
Very close to the subway - exit 12 to Gangnam station is a 2 min walk if that. Even with that exit closed which necessitates walking a bit to get to a crosswalk it’s super close and I was rolling a massive suitcase.
The cons:
I booked a room with a bath - the first room (3rd floor Asian room) I was given had no bath but did have a weird smell. I asked to move (which apparently was quite a lot of trouble for the clerk) who put me on the 9th floor in an African room (wut?) - generally better accommodation.
The rooms themselves are seedy - mildew in the caulk, stains on the floor, why is there tissue stuffed into the wood panels? Hard water soap scum on the extensive glass surfaces that make up the toilet and shower, every single wal and all the furniture has scuff marks dings and scratches, and the slippers provided have clearly seen some things.
I didn’t realize this might be a love hotel type situation until the first night I climbed into bed to find the mattress ‘protector’ is a plastic sheet. A heavy duty kind.
Also of all the amenities many are missing or unavailable and the staff isn’t too helpful (for example - what airport shuttle? I’m leaving my room now at 5:30 in the morning to take the train to ICH because there’s no information on the shuttle and no one could help me? Of less significance where’s the bathrobe and why doesn’t the AC work?
It’s a shame the price is reasonable and the location awesome on this side of the city (though at least 40 min by train from most tourist spots) but I can’t see staying here again.
